Advice for Beginner Street Photographers

I seldom establish goals for street photography. Early in my career, I would allocate specific times for shooting, but this often resulted in unnecessary pressure to capture a photo. When I embraced the idea that there would be days, weeks, or even months without finding anything, I felt relieved. For the past 15 years, I've simply carried my camera as I go about my life. This approach feels more natural and sustainable, keeping me inspired.

I have spent the majority of my life in London, but I've been fortunate to travel widely across Europe and to various global destinations. My work isn't particularly tied to specific places. I appreciate the notion that I can be anywhere and maintain my shooting style, allowing individual images from different locations to fit seamlessly into a larger series alongside other photos.
Countless moments pass by unnoticed. At times, I seek them out, and at other times, they come and find me. This brings excitement. However, it's undeniable that this approach has made me value the quieter, more subtle aspects of life.
For beginners, I would say to be curious, like a kid, be patient and shoot as much as you can. Look for new and different ways to get your work out into the world. Be part of the community, support the industry, and it will support you. And be prepared to play the long game. Do it for the love of photography.

Engaging in long-term projects like books and exhibitions has always been crucial for me, providing a constant source of inspiration when I'm not out shooting. I'm eager to continue learning and adapting to my surroundings.
